Ten Tips for Healthy Skin

Monday, July 4, 2011
by John Doe

Healthy skin is the secret behind a faster, longer lasting and darker tan. Here we look at the top ten natural skin care tips to improve the health of your skin and help it show of your new tan.

1.    You are what you eat: chuck out the chocolate. Eating a nutritious, well-balanced diet is a golden rule in maintaining vibrant, healthy skin. Replace the chocolate, sugar, fat and processed foods with 4- 5 serves of veges, protein, whole grains and fibre each day.

2.    Dose up on the H20: Dehydration (and tea, coffee and sugar drinks) dries out your skin. Drinking 2- 3 litres of water per day will diminish the chances of dehydration.

3.    Get your lazy bum off the sofa. Go for a jog, visit the gym, take a dip in the pool. In addition to maintain and bolstering your health, exercise maintains your skin’s tone and elasticity by increase the blood flow to your skin. 6 times a week for at least 20 minutes works perfectly.

4.    Quit smoking… unless you want premature wrinkles. The nicotine in cigarettes congests your blood vessels with unwanted substances, blocking access for oxygen and nutrients to make its way through.

5.    Lather up in sunscreen. SPF 15+ will do. Avoid excessive sun exposure to maintain healthy skin. Like nicotine, UV rays are harmful and speed up your aging process. Wrinkles aren’t a part of our natural skin care!

6.    Wash your face twice daily. Choose cleansers with a limited amount of chemicals, possibly one from a natural skin care range. Using warm water, gently soaking in the cleanser using your fingertips in a broad, upward circular motion. Washing your face when you wake up and before going to sleep is recommended for healthy skin.

7.    Moisturise. Your skin naturally flakes off, shedding your spray tan with it. Again try choosing one from a natural skin care beauty company. Moisturising prolongs your skin’s “shelf life,” delaying your tan from fading while keeping your skin healthy.  Take notice that your moisturiser complements your skin type (dry, oily, sensitive, etc…) and that it is odour- free.

8.    Exfoliate. Exfoliating removes your dead skin cells to renew your skin, allowing fresh, healthy skin to pave its path through. This is one of the most important things you can do for natural skin care. For dry skin, exfoliate once to twice weekly.  Those with oily skin should exfoliate once a day to prevent clogged pores. Normal skin? Exfoliating two to three times a week does the trick!

9.    It’s not bed time until you’ve washed off your makeup. Your skin renews itself as you get in those z’s. Blocked pores pose an obstacle to this process, so be sure to (gently) remove your “day face” before settling in for the night.

10.    Get a good night of sleep. As your skin renews itself during the night, it is key to get 6- 7 hours of sleep to maintain healthy skin.

Wedding Spray Tan Tips

Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life. Most women want to look their absolute best and what better way than a wedding day tan. Now we’re not saying to get a spray tan done on the actual day – that could be a recipe for disaster – as spray tan and white wedding dresses really do not go.

Getting a wedding spray tan is a terrific way to give your skin a more radiant glow and complement that gorgeous white wedding dress.  The glow a spray tan gives will compliment your inner glow, making your look sun kissed and glorious on your big day. Here are a few tips and suggestions to help look your best on your wedding day.

First, go to a salon that you have been to before and ask for your regular beauty therapist who normally applies your spray tan. If you know the tan was great before, it’s safe to say that it should be great again.

If you haven’t had a spray tan before, go to a salon that appeals to you and let them know about your skin type and what colour you’re aiming for.  Whether you’ve had a spray tan before or haven’t, it’s important to have a trial tan. Testing your spray tan will help ensure the right colour for you and how long it lasts.

Secondly, schedule your wedding spray tan two days before the big day, preferably in the morning or early afternoon. This will allow the tan to fully develop within 24 hours. Shaving, waxing, and skin exfoliation must be done before you get your wedding day tan, so keep that in mind to avoid stubbly legs. To have the best tan, read or ask your salon about the steps to take beforehand.

A third helpful tip is to not have too much bronzer in your wedding spray tan. You want a natural sun kissed glow that compliments your skin, and too much bronzer can take that look away. A light bronzer may be applied to the face the day of your wedding along with additional makeup for the final look.

Having an even, golden wedding day tan will give you that flawless touch, making you look and feel perfect on your special day.

How to Fix a Tan Gone Wrong

Spray tans and tanning lotions can give you that perfect, natural sun kissed look but they can also from time to time go a little awry. Most people have experienced their own tanning disaster, when rather than sun-kissed their tan turns orange, streaky and just plain wrong.  Just what do you do with a tan gone wrong? Don’t freak out just yet, there are some tips and tricks to avoid and rectify that nasty orange spray tan look.

First to avoid a tan gone wrong situation, start by exfoliating your skin a day before you tan. This helps open up your pores and allows the spray formula to cover evenly throughout your body. Also, make sure you avoid moisturising your skin on the day of your spray tan, especially if the moisturiser is oil-based as it can make your tan look blotchy and uneven.

Feet, ankles, knees and palms are the areas that are most likely to give you that orange spray tan look. Shaving or moisturising on the day are the most common causes for these streaky, orange, not-so-natural tanned looks. However, there are ways to fix a tan gone wrong.

The lemon is one of nature’s best remedies. Perfect in tea when you’re sick, the lemon can also be used to remove the unwanted dark orange patches from a spray tan gone wrong. Simply cut a lemon in half and rub it on the problem area – the lemon juice will help lift the formula off. Lemon juice will also do the job, but make sure it’s real lemon juice and not just from concentrate.

Covering your body in oil, or any oily based moisturiser will also help remove streaks and fix your orange spray tan disaster. The longer you let it absorb into your skin the easier it will come off. Once absorbed rinse it off with warm – hot water.

Still looking a bit orange? Use a colour matching face bronzer for problem areas around your body. When applying the bronzer, use a makeup brush not a sponge. Brushing the bronzer on allows for more even coverage and blends better into your skin. Remember you want to reduce the patchiness, not cover it up with more patches!

Winter Tanning Tips

Winter is officially here making it the perfect time for a spray tan. A winter spray tan is a great way to give you that sun kissed look for that special occasion or for just any day of the week. In these cold, sun-less months winter tanning helps you maintain a healthy bronzed complexion with a great natural glow.

As beauty is always in fashion, why not make your skin in style all season? With a few simple tricks you’ll have that endless summer look that is always on trend. First trick is to shave a day before you get sprayed. You want to be body to be completely hairless when getting sprayed (although arms are optional). Avoid shaving on the day to minimise any irritation that may occur from your spray tan.

The second trick of winter tanning is not to wear any makeup, concealer, foundation, perfume or deodorant on the day of your tan. You want to be as natural as possible. Wear loose fitting clothes in dark colours. Sometimes the instant bronzer can wipe off onto your clothes, but don’t worry these marks tend to wash our easily. Make sure you avoid exercising or showering for at least 8 hours after your spray tan. Waiting 24 hours after your tan to shower will give you the best result for a longer lasting and natural looking winter spray tan.

Third trick is to hydrate your skin by moisturising it. Wait at least a day or two for your spray tan to fully sink in.  Moisturising right after your shower will help prolong your tan and keep your skin hydrated and smooth.

Don’t forget you can complement your winter tanning efforts with the colours you wear.  The same goes for toenail and nail polish. With darker tans, try colours in brighter tones such as hot pink, a bright orange or red, lime green, or a sunny yellow. For lighter to medium tans use pastel pinks, whites and off-whites, soft purples, and tranquil blues. This will make your tan look a bit darker but not take away that natural look.

Two-toned gold and silver jewellery such as a bracelet, anklet, or earrings will compliment any tan with a touch of fashion. Despite the cold winter months, wearing a light top with dark jeans will make your tan more noticeable and a bit darker. Darker clothes usually tend to make a tan appear lighter. Just because it isn’t summer, doesn’t mean you can’t look your hottest with the best type of tan around, the winter spray tan.

Tanning Tips: Undies Debate!

Wednesday, June 22, 2011
by John Doe

Tanning with or without underwear? That is the question! You either do or you don’t. There’s no middle ground when it comes to spray tanning. Is it better to go completely naked? Or should you not reveal everything inside the booth?

Ultimately, the choice is up to you. Some prefer to be naked to avoid tan lines and get that seamless sleek tanned look all over. Others just don’t feel comfortable being naked in front of a total stranger who’s spraying them down in a ray of bronze. Being spray tanned with your undies on isn’t a bad thing you just need to be prepared that some areas won’t be as dark as others. Some like the beach tan look where they’d normally have a bikini line tan. Others just embrace it all and want to get every body part even with colour.

There is no definitive answer when it comes to the underwear vs. birthday suit tanning dilemma. It’s usually based on a comfort factor and how you feel being completely naked in front of a total stranger. However, it is a part of the tanner’s job, so you shouldn’t feel too nervous or embarrassed. They get tons of clients, nude or not and have seen it all.

To get the best beach tan look keep the underwear on. You’ll still get all the pros of a spray tan and feel more comfortable. Also you’ll have those subtle tan lines that can fool your friends thinking you were visiting the beach on weekend.

For that “born natural tan” definitely try tanning without any underwear. This will give you a tan all over leaving no tan lines behind. People will think you were born with that gorgeous colour.

Either way you tan, you will get noticed, and in a good way. Tans usually provide people with a little afterglow that keeps their skin looking fresh and sun kissed. The great debate may still exist, however no one loses when it comes to that fabulous looking tan.

Exfoliate Before Tanning

Friday, June 17, 2011
by John Doe

Ever wondered what the secret is to that perfect tan? While everyone has their own set of secret tips and tricks, I think we’d all agree that exfoliation is one of the most important not-so-secret secrets of achieving the perfect tan.

Your skin is constantly generating new skin cells; you need to exfoliate your face and body to help remove the older, dead skin cells. Exfoliation reveals the fresher, newer, younger skin cells below. Regular exfoliation will leave your skin looking healthy, fresh and vibrant. However, be careful not to over exfoliate your skill as this can dry and irritate your skin.

Spray tanning and dead skin cells don’t mix well. If you do not exfoliate regularly, your skin’s surface will have a lot of dead skin cells. If you don’t exfoliate before tanning you will find that your tan won’t really look very good and it won’t last very long.

However, if you do exfoliate the spray tan will go to work on your newest skin and hence your tan will last longer. When exfoliating please make sure that the exfoliating product or glove you use does not contain any oils, as this can act as a barrier to your spray tan.

You can use different types of products to exfoliate your skin:
