Help! I’ve washed off my tan…

Tuesday, May 23, 2017
by james lewis

First off, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve all been there, strutting out of the salon feeling like a bronzed goddess and heading home to follow the after care instructions exactly.

You’ve set your alarm for 2 hours from when your rapid tan was applied and before you know it, it’s time to shower. You jump in the shower and watch as the water turns from clear to brown and back to clear again. You’ve only had a quick rinse, haven’t used any products and you pat your skin dry with the towel instead of rubbing. You look in the mirror and panic mode sets in… WHERE HAS YOUR TAN GONE? Just 60 seconds ago you were a beautiful shade of chocolate and now it looks like you didn’t even get a tan at all!

Step 1:

Relax. You haven’t washed your tan off at all. What you have washed off in the shower are the bronzers which your spray tan technician used as a guide to ensure that they sprayed every part of your body the same gorgeous shade of brown. It’s a common misconception with rapid tans that your tan develops by the time you have rinsed. What actually happens is that you rinse off the cosmetic bronzers, and the DHA continues to develop over the next 18-24 hours when you will be back to that beautiful bronzed goddess you were when you walked out of the tanning salon. The bottom line is: DHA takes time to develop, so while you might not need to sleep in your rapid spray tan, you still need to be patient for the full colour to develop.

Step 2:

Wait. If you got your spray tan at night and it’s time for bed, you will wake up in the morning with colour starting to develop and you will get darker through out the day, so don’t call your spray tan technician asking for a respray just yet. It’s important to not use any moisturisers or body wash and shower gels during this development process as this can stop the DHA from developing and you will end up with a lighter tan than you had hoped for. You will not achieve full bronzed goddess status with moisturiser use in the first 24 hours.

Step 3:

Review. Okay, it’s been 24 hours and your colour still hasn’t developed. It is time to review if you prepped for your spray tan properly. Did you exfoliate the skin removing all dead skin cells before your appointment? Did you make sure you had no moisturiser or any skin products on the skin? If you followed the correct skin prep it’s time to call your tanning tech and get them to help you further.

If you need a spray tan for tonight, it’s time to make use of the many Instant Wash Off lotions on the market such as Moroccan Tan Flawless or Summer Tan Wash Off Instant Glow Lotion 150ML

How To Brighten Dull Skin

Tuesday, December 8, 2015
by John Doe

Lost your shine? Feel as flat as a tack? It can happen to any of us; whether it be because we are dehydrated, tired or even recovering from a nasty cold. Luckily there are ways to help you put the pep back in your step and bring that dull face back to life.

Change your Tone!

Adding a Toner into your skin regime can simply work wonders. A pore-purifying toner that contains ingredients such as rosewater or orange flower water are gentle skin tonics that can help reverse the dulling and revitalise the skin.

Get A Spray!

Opt for a spray tan to bring back a bit of colour and warmth! A spray tan is a safe option for obtaining that nice holiday glow that you might not have the time for…or the funds!

Exfoliate!

Exfoliating is imperative when it comes to obtaining a fresh face. By exfoliating, we refine the skin and gently buff away dead skin cells to reveal shiny new skin.

Lean towards Lactic!

Opt for Lactic Acid Peels to freshen up your skin the next time you visit your Beauty Salon. Lactic acid encourages the skin’s natural collagen production. Collagen helps to keep the skin not only firm but youthful looking, aiding in replenishing much of its elasticity.

Citrus Wonders.

A freshly squeezed orange or lemon is a fantastic way to gently brighten the skin.  Simply cut in half and smooth onto your skin, leave for 5 minutes, then follow by rinsing with luke warm water. Not only do the alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) help exfoliate the skin, the fruit acids dissolve the old skin cells to make room for the new. The acids contained in the lemon will also naturally lighten and brighten your skin.

Pass the Bronzer

Apply a light coat of tan and add a little bronzer on the cheeks to also help put some life back into your skin and add some radiance to your complexion.

WAYS YOU ARE RUINING YOUR SKIN IN YOUR TWENTIES

Ways you are ruining  your skin in your twenties

Too tired to wash your face before you go to bed tonight? One or two nights wouldn’t hurt…right? We’ll run through all the ways you may be ruining your skin that you may not even realise you are doing.

Cake Face

Are you guilty of being a cake face? Try to avoid wearing heavy make up to allow your skin to breathe, as this can result in clogging your pores and causing serious acne. Opt for lighter options for during the week; such as tinted moisturiser, or alternatively mixing your foundation with sunscreen or moisturiser for a more natural look.

Pimple Popper

There’s no two ways about it. While it is true that you should leave pimples alone  to let them pop on their own when ready,  not one person can resist the urge of popping a white pimple that’s staring at them in the mirror! Popping pimples can ultimately cause pores to enlarge.  By touching your face you are also transferring bacteria into the affected area making it even worse.

‘I’ll just wash it in the morning”

Feeling too tired/lazy to wash your face at night? Big No No! Neglecting washing your face can lead to a build up of dirt and oil which can result in bacterial infections and acne. No thanks!

To Tan or Not To Tan The Face…That  is the Question.

As we all know sun tanning can cause skin damage and premature ageing, so it is imperative we take the sunless approach when wanting to achieve a natural glow. Opt for a spray tan, or alternately go for an instant tan product or gradual tanner so that you can keep on reapplying as needed.

Hydrate, All Day, Every Day.

On a daily basis we should be drinking at least 2 litres (eight glasses)  of water. If you are constantly dehydrated  your skin may appear dry and flaky. Nourish your insides and hydrate! Try adding lemon juice or fruit pieces  to make it more exciting.

Stresshead.

No one can help feeling stressed. Whatever the cause may be it can potentially cause damage  long or short term. Dullness, expression lines, rashes or blemishes; try to take a breather and slow down. Indulge in things that relax or relieve you to attempt to alleviate the situation somewhat.

Cigarette Smoker.

Whether you are a cigarette smoker yourself or are exposed to second hand smoke, inhalation can trigger premature ageing, causing the  elastin and collagen in your skin to eventually break down.

Understanding Spray Tan System Specifications

Wednesday, September 16, 2015
by John Doe

For years consumers have believed that wattage is the one key indicator that they should be looking at when it comes to the strength of a spray tan system’s motor.. Somewhere along the way we have lost track of what specifications we should really be looking at and what it is they actually entail.

The truth is, the wattage of a spray tan system actually refers to the motor’s power consumption. A Spray System that is higher in wattage doesn’t necessarily correlate to its power, if anything the higher the wattage is,  the more electricity it is consuming; this is not something that solely impacts the motor’s overall performance.

It is imperative that when assessing spray tan machines we consider all the relevant product specifications. Airflow is an important product specification to acknowledge when deciding which spray system to purchase. Measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM), it is the force of this airflow which affects the system’s overall performance.

Another influential factor is the Revolutions Per Minute (RPM). The RPM measures the number of full rotations completed in one minute around a fixed axis  (in reference to the motor).

Lastly, take note of the spray tan system features. Consider what is it exactly that you are looking for in a system:

Heat – Does the spray system have a heat function? The heat function is suitable  for drying off clients at the end each spray session. Simply remove the applicator, and dry off with the hose.

Customisation – Look into whether the turbine you’re researching  comes with a variable air flow; this allows you to control the airflow when required. In addition to this, it is vital that your spray applicator has a solution dial as this adjusts the amount of solution that passes through the applicator. Together, the variable airflow and solution dial enable the technician to adjust the settings accordingly, as different spray tan solutions may require altered settings in order to attain the desired results. Customisation is the key!

Quality – The quality of a spray tan system is an integral factor. Quality can be partially determined by the length of warranty. Does the spray tan system come with a one year warranty? Take into account the materials the system is built with, and the quality of fit and finish.

Maintenance  – Is the system easy to maintain? There is no point in purchasing a system that is going to be difficult to clean and maintain. Look into whether the spray system comes with a filtration feature and what maintenance steps are required.

Portable – Take note of how much the spray system weighs and if there are carry handles. Think about whether you will require something that will be easily transportable if you’re offering a mobile service.

Noise – Noise is also an important factor to take into consideration. Measured in decibels, a high quality spray tan system will operate at levels that are quite comfortable. In order for us to get a better indication of decibels as a measurement, let’s look at comparisons; an inside conversation is rated at 50dB, a garbage truck is rated at 80dB and a lawnmower is at 100dB. Think about your spray tan set up. Is it located in a day spa where you will have to be mindful of other relaxation therapies that require low noise levels? Are you a mobile technician who doesn’t really deem noise to be an influential issue?

Spray Tan Pattern – Ensure the applicators have an adjustable spray tan nozzle. This enables the technician to adjust the applicator to a horizontal or vertical setting depending on the direction they wish to spray. Also think about whether you would prefer a narrow or wider spray tan pattern. A narrow spray provides a very direct and controlled spray – with minimal chance of overspray, whereas a wider spray tan pattern enables faster application; it all comes down to the technicians preferred preference of spraying.

The Benefits of Natural Oils in Spray Tan Solutions

The Benefits of Natural Oils in Spray Tan Solutions

With all the technological advancements in beauty, these days it’s not enough for your tanning solution to just bronze your body. Right now it’s all about the multi-tasking benefits with the leading spray tan brands—both in their professional and retail solutions—infusing their offerings also with skin bettering ingredients. The delivery of choice? Skin nourishing and smoothing oils.

 ARGAN OIL

You may associate Argan Oil with soft, nourished, shiny hair, but the wonder ingredient sourced from Argan trees found in Morocco yields the same benefits in skincare as well. Hate the sometimes skin drying effects of a spray tan? This oil gives the same softening effects when included in a spray tan formulation, which is why MoroccanTan feature organic Argan Oil as the hero of their professional and retail line. Deeply nourishing, the effect of this luxurious oil onto the skin gives a silky, hydrated effect, and even helps extend the length of your tan.

COCONUT / MACADAMIA OIL

Yes, the coconut oil craze has officially spread to tanning, with PureTan’s range of professional and retail products including the organic enthusiast’s oil of choice (100% Pure Organic Extra Virgin, thanks), along with Macadamia nut oil. Both high in the vitamin and antioxidant count, they help to moisturize the skin and due to the their high healthy fat count, help to retain skin’s natural moisture. Furthermore, coconut oil is rich in proteins, so works to regenerate skin cells and repair damage, and is said to help treat skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis.

AVOCADO OIL

We all enjoy an avocado for a dose of good healthy fat, but the oil from this fruit also contains antioxidants, proteins and vitamins that have fantastic benefits for the skin. While not yet as popular as the coconut oil, it’s quickly gaining momentum due to its thinner consistency and fast-absorbing ability (a godsend if you’ve tried coconut oil and lament the thick “sheen” it can leave on some people’s skin). Avocado oil in tanning products? You’ll find it in JBronze’s professional line, ready to hydrate, protect and strengthen your skin.

The Man Tan

by 23 digital

Okay ladies (..and gents if you’re reading), it’s time to get down to business. Nowadays, the common metro-sexual is everywhere – he’s collecting your garbage, he’s trimming your hair. In fact, he’s probably even searching for ideal lighting right now just so he can take a decent selfie.

These days, it appears as though the male species are embracing change and are confident to go where no man has gone before..No, no we’re not talking about department store..We’re talking about spray tans. Not only are they now openly indulging in waxing, skincare and bold fashion choices, they are also acknowledging that the world is forever changing.. and let’s face it – life is better with a tan!

So why should we embrace the man tan? Well, not only does a healthy looking tan emphasis the body; it also enhances the natural curves, muscles and definition of the body.  This is the reason why we see deliciously dark spray tans at body building competitions.

Current spray tan solutions on the market include the necessary ingredients that assist in producing a deep, delectable tan. However, many fake tans today feature skincare components that nourish the skin as well. These may include:

Aloe Vera – acts as a moisturiser and fights the signs of ageing due to its abundance of antioxidants.

Argan Oil – helps soften and moisturise the skin, leaving it hydrated and nourished.

Green Tea – jam packed with antioxidants and even antibiotic properties to achieve overall wellbeing.

Sea Extracts – prevents signs of ageing, improves skin hydration and reduces inflammation.

So overall, it’s only fair to say that there is an abundance of benefits from the man tan..(At least from where we’re standing..Right ladies?!)  A man tan provides skincare properties, accentuates and celebrates the human body, creates an overall healthy glow, and offers a safer option for tanned skin – Team Adore votes YES to the chocolate man tan! Mmm..chocolate.

What Type of Skin Tone Are You?

Monday, June 15, 2015
by John Doe

It’s not breaking news to any of us; no two skin types are the same. Each of us fall under three skin tone types; either warm, cool or neutral. Luckily, whether it relates to make up or spray tans we have options available to help counteract any unwanted tones or products that will help compliment our skin tone.

It is once you determine what skin tone type you are, that you will begin to understand why ‘that lipstick’ shade looked better on your bestie than it did on you. Or why ‘that spray tan’  looked grey on her skin but amazing on yours.

Cool Tones

Cooler toned skin means that when you are analysing your skin you can see that it naturally throws off red, pink or blue hues.

Ways to determine cool skin tones:

• If silver jewellery flatters your skin more than gold

• The veins in your arms appear more blue or purple

• If red or pink colours  (with a cool toned blue-purple base) compliment your skin

Warm Tones

Warmer skin tones are those who have peach, golden and/or yellow undertones.

Ways to determine warm skin tones:

• If gold jewellery flatters your skin more than silver

• The veins in your arms appear more green or olive

• If warm colour such as oranges, reds and coral compliment your skin

• If you rarely burn when out in the sun

Neutral Tones

Neutral skin types a mix of both cool and warm undertones. Neutral skin tones are neither pink/red/blue nor yellow/gold/peach but is somewhere in-between.

Ways to determine neutral skin tones:

• If either silver or gold jewellery flatters your skin

• The veins in your arms appear either blue or green
