Winter Skin Care Tips

Winter is here and with it we tend to pile on warmer clothes, socks, gloves, hats and boots. And yet, all too often we can forget about our face. Just like the body, our faces need attention during the winter months too! If you ignore winter skin care, it’s likely that your skin will become dry, flaky, and dull in appearance. Why let yourself feel pale and gloomy this winter? Instead take the time to practice some of our winter skin care tips! There is no need to withstand dull and dry skin in the colder months – with a few winter skin care tips you can maintain a dewy and glowing complexion all year long.

Choose the right moisturiser: it’s important to understand that your summer and spring moisturiser isn’t necessarily suitable for the winter months. Since you need the extra moisture in your skin, try using an oil-based moisturiser rather than a water-based one. The oil will help to create a protective layer over the skin, holding the moisture within your skin for longer. When it comes to winter skin care, we particularly love moisturisers that contain avocado oil, primrose oil or almond oil.

Water: this is one of the most important winter skin care tips! Be sure to drink at least 8-glasses of water per day if you wish to maintain healthy, glowing skin! Drinking lots of liquid isn’t just for the summer months when it’s hot. Drinking fluids is particularly important when you’re sitting amongst heating during winter. If you get sick of drinking water in winter, try some herbal, natural teas!

Exfoliate: you may think this sounds ridiculous, but it is an extremely important tip to remember! Make sure you use a natural, non-drying exfoliator, as some products on the market can dry your skin out even more. The best ones tent to contain natural enzymes or lactic acid. Once you’ve found a good product, try to exfoliate at least once a week in order to remove any old, dead skin cells. This will then allow your moisturiser to seep in and nourish your skin more readily.

Avoid Over-Drying Products: Winter skin care also requires avoiding certain products like those which over-dry the skin. These include harsh masks, alcohol-based toners, peels, and astringents – all of which strip the skin of its natural oils. Try to use gentle cleansing milks or mild foaming cleansers instead of harsh, drying products.

Avoid Hot Baths: a hot bath may be a lovely way to warm up in winter, but it will also dry out your skin! That’s why when it comes to winter skin care, we recommend that you avoid long hot baths, or at least keep them to a minimum. If you give in, just make sure you apply a good-quality moisturiser afterwards!

We hope that these winter skin care tips can help you to maintain glowing, healthy skin this winter! Just remember that your face is prone to drying out in the colder months, so taking the time to practice some simple winter skin care will help you to feel your best.
